If your cat doesn’t have a window perch to spy on the world like a tiny, judgmental neighbor… are you even cat parenting correctly?

Kidding. Kind of.

Giving your cat a comfy spot by the window is one of the easiest (and cheapest) ways to make their little lives better. Fresh air, bird-watching, sunbeams—it’s the feline version of reality TV. And the best part? You don’t need to buy anything or drill into your walls. You can build your cat a whole vibe using stuff you already have.

This post goes with my video, which you can watch right here for the full tour and inspo:

DIY Cat Window Perches

Why Window Perches Matter for Cats

Cats are nosy. That’s not shade—it’s biology. They need enrichment, visual stimulation, and a cozy space that feels like theirs. A good window spot helps prevent boredom, gives them and something to do while you’re working.

Easy DIY Cat Window Perch Ideas You Can Do Right Now

1. Just Drag a Chair Over There

Seriously. If you’ve got a chair and a window, congratulations—you’re already halfway there. For some reason, cats think chairs by windows are premium seating. If you’ve already got a cat tree by one window, add a chair to another window for a new perspective.

2. Repurpose a Table or Nightstand

No spare chair? No problem. I pulled a random end table over to the window, and the cats claimed it in under three seconds. Toss a towel or blanket on it, and it’s basically a five-star resort.

3. Dresser + Box Combo

Want to give your cat some height? Slide a dresser over by the window and top it with a cardboard box or storage bin. Add a soft towel, and boom—instant penthouse suite.

When in Doubt, Blanket It

I don’t have extra storage space, so I repurposed my Christmas decoration tubs. Covered them in blankets and some faux fur, added a couple of pillows, and turned it into a cozy cat lounge. Bonus: the tubs hold 200 pounds, so I can sit there too.

Bonus Project: The Cardboard Box House

This one’s made entirely out of Chewy boxes. I wrapped it in fabric, added a faux fur top, tossed a scratcher in the middle, and called it a day. The whole setup sits on storage bins for extra weight, so it’s sturdy when the cats jump on it.

Sprinkle in the Extras

  • Add a suncatcher or hanging crystals to throw little rainbows across the room. Instant magic.
  • Hang a bird feeder outside the window. It doesn’t need to be pretty—just functional. Your cat will be obsessed.

Keep It Simple, Keep It Cozy

You don’t need to build something Pinterest-worthy. A chair, a box, a towel, a vibe. That’s it.

Let me know in the comments on the video what you’re turning into a perch. Bonus points if it’s absolutely ridiculous.
